The North Carolina coast is heralded for its beauty and diversity. From the Inner Coastal Waterway to the Outer Banks, North Carolina has much to offer anyone looking to relax or to be inspired. For artist Betsy Drake, that was precisely what she found. Born and raised in North Carolina, Mrs. Drake settled in the Eastern part of the state where she owned a large high-end furniture and interior design business. She also maintained a studio on the Inner Coastal Waterway as a get-away and source of inspiration. There, Mrs. Drake and her husband, R.B. Hamilton, created art depicting the Coastal life.

They say that only two things in life are inevitable, and we all know what they are. I always thought the popular saying should include a third inevitability; with time, things will change. There’s no denying that today, we go through life at a pace that’s unlike any other in our history, and unlike many others in the world. That is, except two weeks out of every year, when we can slow down, relax and enjoy…. Enjoy family. Enjoy friends. Enjoy a cold drink on a beach, or topside.
Even when we have the chance to get away from it all to our favorite beach, moments of zen are interspersed with bumper to bumper traffic on the way to dinner, mega-entertainment complexes and beach front high rise condos. Don’t get me wrong, I’d take sitting in traffic on the way to dinner at the beach any day over a typical evening commute! Every once in awhile we get a glimpse into (or reminder of if you’re experienced enough) the ‘glory days’. Even less often, we are lucky enough to catch such a glimpse of the coastal life of yesteryear’s.

A Look Into The Eyes of A Mermaid
Many of us have heard tales of mermaids and many of us have seen art depicting the lives of mermaids. At first mention of this mythical creature interest and positive energy arise. Most people will use kind words to describe her. Women want to be more like her with long flowing hair, perfect bodies and an attractive singing voice. Men want to meet them to get a closer look at this stunning creature sparking feelings of lust and desire.
The actual folklore behind mermaids is not as glamorous as most may think. The early history of the mermaid came from ancient Greek Mythology. The Sirens were lovely ladies dueling on a far away island composed of beautiful flowery meadows surrounded by jagged rocky outcroppings. The Sirens were mesmerizing creatures to look at and even more impressive to hear. Their beautiful voice was a dream come true to sailors that were weary and longing for the female touch. Surfer Room Decor

Now that spring is here we all have our ways of preparing for the quickly approaching summertime season. For some, it may be spring cleaning and a garage sale, for others prepping the yard and lawn. For me it is a whole lot simpler, I live in a small apartment on the beach where I have no space for gathering any extra stuff to sell. As far as yard work goes, the beautiful sandy beach doesn’t take much upkeep on my part.
I have two particular issues that need to be addressed. Let’s start with number one, keeping all of this sand on the beach and outside of my apartment. I have an outdoor hose to spray off my feet but this still doesn’t cut it. I try to do a little dance and rub my feet together at the top of the stairs but sooner or later I’m bound to dance over a big wood splinter in my bare feet.
